What can I do today?

Hey,

Where do entrepreneurs make the big money?

Hint: It’s not from selling products or services.

The big money comes from selling the business.

Have you ever heard this quote: Entrepreneurship is about living a few years of your life like most won’t, so that you can live the rest of your life like most can’t.

I think about this quote all the time.

What can I do today, that will make my future better.

I apply this every day to my business.

How can I improve my business today, so that it performs better tomorrow.

Hiring freelancers to work for us has consistently given us a positive return on investment.

A sales page redesign doubled our sales.

One blog post cost us $100 4 years ago. It now makes us over $1500/month and gets us 30,000 visitors/month!

We doubled our search traffic last year. Was it because we dramatically increased our page loading times? Is that also why our conversions went up again?

All these investments pay for themselves within days…

Play the long game where you think past making a buck today, so that you can make 10 bucks tomorrow.

Last year we launched a new website called AwesomeWeb.com

You go to AwesomeWeb to find and hire the best freelance designers and developers.

All you have to do is search for the skills you are looking for and it will show you freelancers meeting your criteria. Then you can browse through their portfolios, decide who you like and contact them, all without paying us anything or registering on the site.

One thing we kept getting asked, over and over, was for a job board feature.

Business owners, bloggers, and entrepreneurs just like yourselves, wanted to post an ad and let our awesome freelancers come to you.

So we built a Job Board

We originally didn’t want to include a job board because we didn’t like the environment they create on our competitors sites. It essentially turns every job into a bidding war, where often, the cheapest bidder wins. The problem is, the cheapest is often the worst, in every way imaginable. Poor communication. Poor coding practices. Cuts corners. Little attention to detail etcetera etcetera.

This doesn’t exist with AwesomeWeb, for two big reasons:

1. EVERY single member on our platform goes through an approval process. If they are not good enough, they get declined. On average we decline over 25% of members. Which may not seem like a lot, but we are also one of the only freelance marketplaces who charge freelancers for membership. This results in not only a community of the best freelancers but also members who take business seriously. Which is something you want.

2. Freelancers cannot see what other freelancers are saying or bidding. 100% open communication. When a freelancer see’s your job, they are invited to start a conversation. Members are encouraged to add each other on Skype, this doesn’t exist on other sites because they charge the client (you), a percentage of the project fee for their service and if you are talking outside of their site, you may cut them out which means they lose money. Again this just leads to poor communication and an environment where no one wins.

Our job board is easy to use and leads you effortlessly through the process.

To post a job, visit this page.

Briefly describe what you do and your target audience. After that tell us what you want and how you want it.

Then hit Publish Job.

We won’t be releasing the job board update to freelancers for a couple more days. For maximum exposure, make sure to publish your job as soon as possible so that when we go live to members, you have our whole community looking.

I hope you enjoy this new feature, we have many more planned.

Michael

PS. If you are stuck on what to hire a freelancer for, here are some suggestions that apply to 90% of sites I see:

- Hire a developer to make your website 100% responsive so that it looks flawless on every device. This increases conversions and search engine rankings.

- Hire a designer to produce a branding package. Including: Logo, Favicon (little image next to name in browser tab), Social Media Graphics, Business Cards. Get one person to do it all so that it will match and make your brand look a notch above the rest. This is a great opportunity to pick a colour scheme to keep to going forward.

- Customised website headers for different seasons (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Easter, Halloween)

- Banner adverts for your site to promote sales pages and squeeze pages. Affiliates can also use them to promote you.

- Completely redesign your whole site. If you are making money right now and you haven’t had a professional designer work on your site, then you are losing money. If you pay someone $2000 to design your site and you start to make $500 extra a month, is it worth it? Of course it is!

- Get a developer to optimise your site for page speed. The faster your site, the higher your conversions, the better Google ranks you.

- Get a developer to build that mobile app you have wanted to build for AGES.

Now go to the Awesomeweb Job Board

Motivation is critical [Grateful]

Hey,

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at IncomeDiary.com

We are grateful to you for reading our messages, buying our products and supporting our endeavors.

Our gift to you today is an authentic and revealing message about Motivation.

Enjoy,

Barry Dunlop
Team IncomeDiary

++++ One thing that I’ve learned over the years is that motivation is critical ++++

By Craig Ballantyne

One thing that I’ve learned over the years is that motivation is critical. Take diets, for example: they aren’t exactly rocket science, but it takes a huge amount of motivation to follow a strict diet… just like it takes motivation for most people to hit the gym 3-5 times per week.

The same principle applies in other parts of our lives. It takes a tremendous amount of motivation… of self-discipline… to get up every day and stay focused on building an alternate source of income.

Maybe you have a great new e-book that you’d like to write… or perhaps launch a new business overseas in one of the many exotic places that I travel to each year… or develop the skills to become a successful online currency trader.

But life is full of distractions. And as human beings, we are full of personal challenges. OK let’s be honest – weaknesses. Nobody is perfect, and we all have to overcome our personal weaknesses to become successful.

It took me many years to build a successful fitness business… years before I was writing guest columns in publications like Men’s Health. During that time, I had to overcome my own weaknesses, and I’m going to be very candid with you about how I did that:

My Weakness #1 – Addiction

I come from a family that suffers from addiction. My father was an alcoholic, and his brother was an alcoholic and cigarette smoker. Both had their lives shortened because of it.

I have no intentions of going down that road, but if there really is a gene for addiction, then I guess I have to be addicted to something, right?

If so, then I’m at least going to pick my poison. So I choose knowledge. And by doing so, I channel my weakness into a strength: an insatiable appetite to learn.

Now, given the opportunity, I’d surf the web all day reading various websites… but that behavior, while not destructive, doesn’t further my business. Instead, I fore myself to seek out productive knowledge: things like professional seminars, books, and online courses.

That’s how my weakness becomes a strength.

My Weakness #2 – Laziness

My next biggest weakness is that I am utterly lazy when it comes to manual labor. In fact, I am so lazy that when I was younger, I would put more effort into avoiding work than if I had just gone to work. I’m also mechanically inept, which doesn’t help.

This isn’t a badge of honor for me… just a simple truth that is, in fact, a weakness of mine. I knew that if I wanted to be successful, I had to figure out a way to channel this weakness into building a business based on what I -really- wanted to do with my time.

That’s why I’ve worked for 18 years to build a business that makes money selling my knowledge, not my labor. I turned my weakness into a strength and designed a lifestyle based on working how I want, when I want.

My Weakness #3 – No tech skills

I can barely figure out iTunes (just about had a meltdown yesterday and almost smashed my computer trying to rent Ironman 2 (yes, Ironman TWO!) on my computer).

But in reality, that’s VERY good news for people running their own website business.

You see, the money is not made through technological knowledge. You can hire that. Cheap, too. So the simple solution to this weakness is to outsource.

Do NOT spend hours and hours figuring out how to create websites. In fact, I’d say that having superior tech skills will HINDER an online business because you’ll get too focused in the technical weeds.

Instead, you should know WHAT you want, and hire someone else to figure out HOW. Focus on the big ideas that will make you money, let others sweat the small stuff.

You can hire some of the worlds best Tech People and Designers at www.awesomeweb.com

So turn your technology weakness into a strength by learning how to delegate the tech tasks to someone else. That’s what I did.

Bottom line - there’s no weakness that is insurmountable. Any weakness can be turned into a strength if you have the proper mindset and motivation to do it.

To your abundance and wealth,

Craig Ballantyne

PS - Need a hand figuring out how to start?

You need more than just a web designer.

You need a BIG idea, great copy, the perfect product, and an awesome offer.

How to Create a Killer Offer That Converts Like Crazy!

The Ultimate Formula for Making Money

Hey,

JP Getty said...

"My formula for success is rise early, work late and strike oil."

But for those of us who don't strike oil,

Craig Ballantyne has an alternative formula...

Enjoy,

Barry Dunlop
Team IncomeDiary

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Ultimate Formula for Making Money
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was 9:45 on a Saturday night. In California. That put me five hours past my regular East Coast bedtime. But there I was, still on stage in front of over three hundred small-business owners, showing them how to extract more profit from their businesses.

I loved it. Nothing gets me more excited than teaching enthusiastic, ambitious people my success formula, whether in fitness or in business. And this formula was the most important equation they’d ever receive:

(NM + YP) x BI10 x OPC x POS / 5% = $$$

The end.

Clap. Clap. Clap…….Clap.

Just kidding.

Of course I’ll explain it to you.

NM stands for “Niche Market” and YP stands for “Your Product”.

Add those two together and multiply it by the “Big Idea” (BI). The Big Idea is the essential exponential factor in success.

Take that result and multiply it by “Other People’s Customers” (OPC), which is the fastest way to get started.

Now you multiply that by your “Position of Strength” (POS). Your POS is what you bring to the marketplace that no one else can bring.

Divide that by your 5% (Your Unique Ability – the activities that Dan Sullivan explains as being only made possible by you and your talents).

And that is The Formula for how you make money in business.

Let me walk you through it in a little more detail.

To get started building your business, you need to choose a marketplace where you know the customer well.

You need to know what they want, what keeps them up at night (either because they are frustrated or excited), and you need to know what problem they have that you can solve.

Your product itself needs to have a Big Idea.

Your Position of Strength is a wildcard in your success.

You must bring something to the game (of business) that is unique. Perhaps you have media connections, or an on-screen video personality that is unmatched by anyone else. Or perhaps it is your Big Idea or your expertise in the industry.

Oftentimes we discount our skills that would give us a Position of Strength, so don’t hesitate to ask your colleagues, friends, and family and have them tell you what allows you to stand out.

Finally, you’ve been taught time and time again to make sure that you are delegating the $10 per hour tasks if you want to make $100,000 per year. You need to get rid of the time-wasting activities in your day and focus on the activities in your business that will “move the needle”, as Early To Rise Publisher, Matt Smith likes to say.

Or as Bedros Keuilian proclaims, you should really only be working on, “Delegating, motivating, and selling.”

Those are the activities that will bring in revenue to your business – and that is what business is all about.

If you don’t know what activities are worth your time and what aren’t, then you need to get involved in a Mastermind group so that people who have more experience than you can help you.

This will give you faster results.

“Mastermind and collaborate with other smart entrepreneurs if they have futures that are even bigger than their present.” – Yanik Silver

Yanik Silver was my mentor who introduced me to Matt Smith, who then allowed me to achieve the goal of my business dreams, which was running Early to Rise.

You need to get out there and meet the people you want to do business with and be around positive people who have had success – even if it just means starting with a Virtual Mastermind group.

When you can afford to pay to play and get coaching, that will accelerate your progress even more.

The formula is part of your wealth-building journey. The networking you do is part of your wealth building “club”. And the mentor you get, such as myself, Yanik Silver, or Mark Ford, is you wealth building coach. When you have all of these in place, and you follow my wealth-building formula, then you will write your own ticket in life, and will achieve the success you desire and deserve.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thought For Today ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Be careful how you spend your time, there are no refunds.

4 Keys to Profitable Partnerships
++++++++++++++++++++++++

By Craig Ballantyne

Back in 2001, when I first started my career in Information Marketing, doing a Joint Venture (JV) meant something quite different than it does now.

Today, everyone thinks a JV refers to Affiliate Marketing. But that’s not what it is.

A true Joint Venture is where you partner with someone on a product or business.

For example, Bedros Keuilian and I have created a JV coaching program that includes our $100K Mastermind Group, a private Facebook Coaching program called Online Info Ignition, and events like the Info Blueprint Workshop. Bedros and I work very well together, and here's why.

There are four keys to our — and any —  successful JV:

1) Making the most of other people’s poorly used customers
2) Great reward for doing it (money, fame, etc.)
3) Bringing something unique to the person with whom you are doing business
4) Having the skill of deal making

Here’s how each of these plays out in the JV between Bedros and myself.

Other people’s poorly used customers

Bedros has a big list of over 50,000 personal trainers. I have two lists: one at Internet Independence, of 10,000 people, and another at ETR, of over 100,000 people. But neither of these audiences received the high-end, hands-on coaching they needed to build an online business. We fixed that by creating the Mastermind and marketing it to our lists.

Great reward for doing it (money, fame, etc.)

Fame is relative. Bedros and I will never go on Shark Tank because of the Mastermind, but we’ve grown our fame in our little info-marketing worlds because we are the teachers. Our students become successful, thank us, and recommend us to others. This has a big impact on many aspects of our businesses, not just on getting new clients in to the Mastermind group. By taking action, we get attraction of new opportunities. Bedros gets invited to be on reality shows, and I get book deals.

Of course, we have also turned this into a profitable business. There is less overhead in Mastermind coaching than in anything else that I do.

Bring something unique to the person with whom you are doing business

Bedros and I are like night and day. West Coast Cool vs. East Coast Attitude. The yin and yang of coaching styles. We both care deeply about our clients, but we express it in different ways. We both ‘go to bat’ and push to the ends of the earth to make them successful, but we use different tools.

We also bring different skill sets to the Mastermind Coaching. He’s the master of selling in person, on stage, one-on-one, and through group coaching. I have more experience in creating info products and driving specific sources of traffic. He has more knowledge of buying advertising, while I’m more connected in the affiliate worlds that our clients need to join.

Even in areas where we are both talented, such as email marketing, we have two different styles and varied experiences. We can bring double the testing results, BIG ideas, and failure stories to our coaching clients so they get double the value without paying double the price for separate coaching.

It’s a win-Win-WIN situation for our coaching client’s customers, our coaching clients, and us.

Dealmaker skill

Doing business with Bedros or I is simple. We belong in the handshake era where your word was your bond. We don’t need fancy contracts. And we both bring great ideas for future deals.

This is why we make a perfect team.

When we need to, we can broker deals between our clients and people outside of the Mastermind. Or we can make a deal with great guest speakers to bring them in and help our clients. Or we can make deals with other companies that need our help to rejuvenate the business, like we are doing with our friends at Income Diary.

We bring energy, enthusiasm, experience, and education along with a vast network of connections that will help you rapidly build the business of your dreams so that you are making $5,000, $10,000, or more each month.

It’s the perfect plan from the perfect partnership.

What does this mean for you?

Now that you understand how a good JV works, you’re going to follow the four keys to a JV and go out to build a partnership that has massive benefits for your future partner, and — of course — for you.

Remember, a JV is about win-Win-WIN relationships. It’s not about “sucking out their customers” or profiting at the expense of their demise. It’s about building them up while building you up at the same time. Go with a giving hand. Show them how you can improve their profits, get more from their current assets, reduce their expenses, and making their lives better overall.

That’s what a JV partnership is about. So here’s what to do...

Find a Business with a Customer List that is Being Poorly Used

It’s hard to believe in this day and age that a business with a website and customer email list is not emailing that list at least twice a week. But you’d be surprised. Some companies only contact their list once a month with a corporate-style email newsletter. Others don’t even do that, and just blast out a sales pitch email three to four times per year, without making the effort to build a relationship with their readers.

Bedros and I see huge email marketing mistakes by big and small companies alike. All you need to do is get on the email lists of the most popular businesses in your niche market and find one where you can improve their email marketing results. Then take the knowledge you’ve built through what we’ve taught you, and approach them with a well-laid-out plan for a JV.

There are other opportunities. You might find that a business does a good job with email marketing but is leaving money on the table by not having higher-priced, higher-profit products.

For example, they might only sell $97 home-study courses. But what if you offered to take that $97 home-study course and turn it into a $497 four-month online coaching course that includes webinars and a private Facebook coaching group where the customers can ask questions and get more hand-holding advice? You could do all the work, they email their list to sell it, and you split the profits (the split depends on the value you prove to the business... that’s the art of deal making!).

The opportunities are endless. You might partner on a product, take over their email marketing, or start a high-end Mastermind. The exact opportunity will be up to your imagination and individual situation, but trust me there is plenty of low-hanging fruit out there for the picking.

Show Your Potential Partner the Great Reward for Doing It (money, fame, etc.)

Will you bring them more sales and new customers? Can you show them how to maximize the value of the customers they currently have? Will you help them get a book or TV deal because you’ll be making them famous on YouTube or Instagram? Can your expertise help them cut expenses and increase profits without having to create more products or do more work?

Be clear and concise in showing them, WIIFM (What’s in it for me — and by me, I mean them!).

Bring Something Unique to the Partnership

If your potential partner can do everything that you can, they don’t need you (unless they are simply out of time or energy to take action on their ideas). You must prove to them that you have insider knowledge, or valuable skills, or a more extensive network than they do. Preferably, you’d have all of those and more.

Make the Deal

This is where you must sell them on the venture. Prove the profits that are coming their way. Bring a well-structured plan, show them that you can do something they can’t do, and that you can maximize the value of an opportunity or asset that already exists in their business. The more hands-off and done-for-you the solution you offer, the better.

If you’re just getting started, the reality is that you’ll be doing the grunt work to improve the profitable performance of the assets they already own.

If you have assets you can bring to the table, just as Bedros and I did when we created our JV, then you’ll want to emphasize your unique skills and how they can improve the profits of your potential partner.

Finally, if you run an established business but you know your assets are being underutilized (perhaps you have a customer list that is not being optimized through email marketing), you can make a deal with a partner that excels in that are

Not all deals need to be 50-50, but they do need to be fair. If you’re just starting out, you’ll likely need to accept less of the profits in order to gain experience and build your reputation.

On the other hand, if you’re the big dog in this relationship, you can make a deal for a healthier share of the profits as long as you prove to your potential partner that there are other benefits (such as fame, a bigger network, or skill development) that will ultimately prove profitable for them.

Joint Ventures are simple. Find an opportunity, make a plan to profit, identify the right partner, and make a deal. Always think win-Win-WIN and you’ll come out ahead in the big games of business and life.

This guest post makes me $12k a year

Hey,

One day it occurred to me… I wonder if there are any links on my website that could be better monetised.

I figured there must be a way to see all my outgoing links, in order of most popular.

Turns out Google Analytics will let you see this data if you setup event tracking for it.

So that’s what I did and a month later I went back to look at the stats.

I now could see hundreds of websites IncomeDiary readers were going to from clicking links on my website. The top site had been clicked over 1000 times. I visited the page and they were selling software that they billed customers monthly for. I scrolled to the bottom of the page, found an affiliate program link, signed up and changed the URL on my website.

The first month I made $100 from changing this one link.

It’s a recurring product… so every month, it makes more and more money. Less than 2 years later, this one link makes over $1000 a month.

$12,000 a year for changing one link.

Best thing is, I didn’t even write the post. I paid someone $100 to write it for me.

Two lessons learned:

1. Often you can make more money by focusing on what’s already working. Pay attention to the details. Ask questions.

2. The return on investment for content marketing is unbelievable. $100 investment makes me $1000 a month and gets me over 1000 new visitors every day. Rinse and repeat for maximum benefit!

The Fight For Success - Are You Winning?

Hey,

The success you deserve is outside your comfort zone

That is where the magic happens!

Today, Craig Ballantyne is going in deep...

As usual there is Great Wisdom here.

Enjoy,

Barry Dunlop

++++++++++++++++++++
Sorting Out Your Priorities
++++++++++++++++++++

Today's article has nothing to do with email clicks and everything to do with the rest of your life.

Let’s talk about…

The Fight.

You have a devil on your shoulder. An angel on the other. So do I. We all do. And they are fighting. The Devil wants you to stay in your comfort zone. The Angel wants to see you achieve your dreams. Sad thing is that for most people, the devil wins. But NOT for you. You’ll win this fight.

Now your devil might be raising a lil’ hell lately. But here’s why. It’s because he knows he’s in the final rounds and he’s bleeding bad. Your good habits, your commitment, and persistence have beaten him down over the last few months. That’s why he’s swinging for the fences. He’s scared. It’s time for you to deliver the knockout blow.

Every step you take in the right direction, and every time you make the right choice in the face of temptation, you put the hurt on your bad habits. You make your Angel stronger and you get closer to your dreams.

Remember that with every action you take today… with every temptation that comes along and with every obstacle that people put in your way. When you make the right choice for your right life, you knock that devil down again. One more time and you just might knock him out for good.

So keep going… keep punching… keep fighting. You will win. I believe in you.

As you keep winning, there are questions you must ask yourself about what you are fighting for. I really enjoyed this exercise from Greg McKeown.

Take some time to answer these. I'll even share my answers with you to give you a quick start.

Step 1: Write down the question “What would I do if I only had a week left to live?” and take 10 minutes to write down your answer.

=> Spend every moment with my family
=> Give away all my money

Step 2: Write down the question, “What would I do if I only had a month left to live?” and take 10 minutes to write down your answer.

=> Spend every minute with my 5 families (Ballantynes, Keuilians, Smiths, Marions, and Team ETR)
=> Film videos of the 3-5 biggest lessons from my life to pass on to the world
=> Give away all my money

Step 3: Write down the question, “What would I do if I only had a year left to live?” and take 10 minutes to write down your answer.

=> Spend every minute with my 5 families (Ballantynes, Keuilians, Smiths, Marions, and Team ETR)
=> Film 1 more workout product to cement my legacy – just can’t help filming workouts! :)
=> Film videos of the 3-5 biggest lessons from my life to pass on to the world
=> Give away all my money

Notice that I…

=> Don’t care about checking off some silly bucket list of items like “bungee jumping in the Amazon jungle”
=> Don’t care about buying things
=> Don’t care about making more money, just giving it away
=> Care about people, experiences, and legacy

That’s right for me. I’m not saying it’s right for you.

But no matter what, please do the right things for your right life – always.

Right on,

Craig Ballantyne

Hey,

Or write more persuasive and engaging blog posts? Or build a better squeeze page?

Lessons I Learned From A Copy King!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

By Craig Ballantyne

I first met this King of Copy at a Morton’s steakhouse in Bethesda, Maryland, just past the town of Chevy Chase (seriously, it exists!). He and I were staying at the Hyatt Regency for a Yanik Silver Mastermind back in 2007.

It was there that I first noticed the common traits that almost all great copywriters/salesmen shared...

a) They like to eat & drink
b) They like to laugh & have a great time
c) They are loyal friends
d) They are extremely generous
e) They LOVE to tell stories … and they are great at telling them.
These all come to them naturally.

Unfortunately, I’m not a natural in all of those…(just a, part of b, and c). I have to work quite hard at the rest.

Fortunately, the King of Copy gave us the FORMULA we need to become amazing salesmen and women. (Recommend you Print This!)

It’s below.

Perry Belcher is one of the best salesmen that I know – whether in print, in person, or in video.

Perry first came up with this list after stumbling across David Frey’s 12-step foolproof sales letter formula. Perry claims this formula has made him many millions of dollars over the years, but he still was able to add a few upgrades.

Here are Perry’s 21 copy secrets…

Enjoy!

1) Call out to your audience… Be specific! It seems unnecessary to put “Attention: _(insert your audience here)_” at the top of a sales letter, but you see it – and even hear it on the radio – all the time…particularly from top direct marketers
2) Grab their attention with your Big Promise Headline telling them, specifically, what you are going to teach them
3) Backup the big promise with a quick explanation (sub-headline)
4) Identify the problem by telling a story (see my final thoughts about Perry below) and make sure they know that it is NOT their fault that they struggle right now
5) Provide your solution – and prove it is the best option
6) Show pain (with empathy & affinity)
7) Explain ease-of-use
8) Show speed of results
9) Future cast – Explain to them how their life will be better because of your solution
10) Prove that you are the expert (credibility)
11) Detail the benefits in bullet points – And here’s an additional bonus tip from Bedros to make this better…
…”Whenever you are creating bullet points, use the phrase “so that” to make the bullet even better.”
For example: The simple benefit “You’ll lose fat with this workout” can be improved by turning it to, “You’ll lose fat with this workout so that you turn heads at the beach & get all the attention you want from the opposite sex“.
(That’s not a great bullet, by the way, but it’s just a sample of how to use that formula to improve your bullet copy.)

12) Show proof/testimonials … you can also use an outside authority…such as statistics from research, or quoting an authority (i.e. “According to the Wall Street Journal“)
13) Make your offer in detail
14) Build up your value – Fragment your offer and then add it all up to increase value
15) Add bonuses – increase the value even more
16) Reveal your price (this is where the pop up buy button shows up in a VSL) …NOTE: If you are going to split test, start with Price, then test headline, and then test your offer
17) Inject scarcity – Find a way to deliver this…via increased price, limited time, etc.
18) Give guarantee to remove/reverse all risk
19) Call to action – Be specific and tell them what to do to take action now
20) Give warning that if they don’t buy, here’s what will happen (i.e. will remain in pain)
21) Close with a reminder – a PS recap of everything … Perry said one of his best PS’s went like this:

“PS – As my grandmother said, ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again when it doesn’t work. So if you keep doing what you’re doing now, you’ll be in the same place next year.” And then it went into a summary of the problem, his solution, the offer, and his guarantee.

Listen, this is nothing groundbreaking. And it’s no replacement for a big idea/hook, but it’s a great formula to help you get started. Heck, it will save you a ton of time as you write future sales letters.

Get good at sales copy and you will be King of Your World,

Craig Ballantyne

Content Marketing - What Is Working, Fall 2015

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Here's what's working now in my business. It's called Content Marketing. What we do, on a very simplified level, is send traffic from our Facebook pages (300,000 fans) to our website (EarlyToRise.com). Once people go to our site, we make them free offers and show them our best products.

Each day we get about 500 new email subscribers and make about 20 sales, and each month our sales are doubling. We're really optimistic this will be a big breakthrough in our business in 2016.

The success of this plan depends on the content you create. It needs to be both valuable and interesting enough to get the initial click (without lowering yourself to the level of "clickbait"). Here's what I've found...

For better or for worse, and because of human nature, people love articles that:

=> Give them the easy way out
=> Justify their bad behaviors
=> Allow them to feel superior to others because of things they do AND don’t do (for example, people that don’t have iPhones love reading about the negatives of iPhones)
=> Surprise them with facts (especially ones that make them feel better about themselves or justify bad behaviors)
=> Give them permission to eat forbidden foods
=> Allow them to blame others
=> Prove that it’s NOT their fault that they are broke, overweight, struggling, etc.
=> Bring down others to their level
=> These are not politically correct, but it’s true, and it’s just human nature.

Based on that list, here are some of the article ideas I suggested that would get a lot of clicks and help us build an email list of people interested in pain relief (to promote our Yoga DVD program):

7 foods that reduce pain
7 foods NEVER to eat for pain relief
7 drinks that reduce pain
7 easy changes to make at work to reduce pain
7 things in your house causing you pain
7 things you do in your sleep that cause you pain
7 things your boss does that cause you pain
7 ways your iPhone causes you pain (also allows iPhone haters to enjoy)
7 ways your spouse causes you pain

The list of 7 things can be 3 things, 5 things, 10 things, etc. It's not the number, it's the ideas that matter… we want to prove to someone that there are several surprising things they can do with minimal effort to reduce pain and prove that it’s not their fault they are in pain (in fact, it’s often someone else’s fault!).

The overriding message is that content needs to let people off the hook (blame others for all pain) and make it easy to reduce pain (by eating favorite foods – like anti-inflammatory cherry pie) all while surprising and entertaining them.

Create some killer content today,

Craig Ballantyne

PS - And now for something completely different...

If the world were to take all your earthly possessions and ask you, "What do you have left?" and you could truthfully reply, "Everything," with a calm smile on your face, knowing that you have your family, friends, and integrity, then you, my friend, have lived the right way and won the game of life. Have gratitude today. Count your riches in relationships.

Underground Copywriter Interview
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I recently had the chance to interview a pro copywriter that travels the world with my friend, Simon Black. This copywriter gets to create his work wherever he wants, all because he studied hard to master a high-value competency. He shows you how to do the same today.

Q: Knowing what you know now with hindsight being 20/20 what steps should someone take if they wanted to become an expert copywriter – and all without spending a lot of money?

Answer:

The fastest way to become a good copywriter is to write copy… period. Reading books, buying courses, and attending events can’t hurt but you won’t get good until you actually write copy.

Think about it. You don’t become a good anything (golfer, basketball player, investor, etc.) by reading books and going to seminars. It can help but you won’t get better at anything until you do it and apply what you learned from books & events.

The best education is to get on as many lists as you can – not just any list though – the lists of people you know to be good direct response marketers. It could be an email list or a snail mail list or both. Then you study what they do. Over time you’ll notice commonalities.

You could also buy books. Books are cheap or even free if you can find them at the library. The first book I read was “The Ultimate Sales Letter” by Dan Kennedy. It’s a great start. There are many books written by great direct response copywriters. Read as many as you can. Here are a few in no particular order:

=> Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins
=> Advertising Secrets of the Written Word and Triggers by Joe Sugarman
=> Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene Schwartz
=> The Robert Collier Letter Book (This book earned Robert Collier the distinction of being one of the greatest marketing minds in history.)
=> Tested Advertising Methods by John Caples
=> The Gary Halbert Letter (TheGaryHalbertLetter.com) – Unfortunately, the “Prince of Print” passed away a few years ago but the archives are still online.
=> Gary Bencivenga – Bencivenga Bullets (Free at MarketingBullets.com)
=> Ogilvy on Advertising by David Ogilvy
=> The ULTIMATE Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy – I already mentioned this one. It’s the first book I read… plus it makes the list an even 10 resources.
=> Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini – it’s not about copywriting, but it covers concepts every good direct response copywriter uses and should know.

I’m sure there are more but if you read all these and apply what you learn, you will be off to a great start.

You’re not going to become an expert copywriter in 6 months though.  Gurus say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at anything. There are about 2,000 work hours in a year so working 40 hours per week, it would take you 5 years to put in 10,000 hours. You can get there faster by working more but 10,000 hours sounds about right to me. If it was easy and could be done in 6 months, there would be a lot more experts.

Clients – I don’t look for clients but I remember how I found my first client back when I was broke. I was on a lot of lists and I responded to emails they had sent me asking if they needed any copy written. One of them hired me.

I know people who are on sites like elance - but I am not on those sites because everywhere you go, you hear people saying that’s where you go to find cheap [fill-in-the-blank] – copywriters, webmasters, programmers, graphic designers, etc. I don’t want to be found with all the people who will work for next to nothing.

The best way I found clients was to selectively introduce myself to people at live events. I don’t pass out cards to everyone with a heartbeat. I pick and choose people I think I might like to work with and I end up working with some of them. That’s a great way to find clients but it will probably cost you more than $300 to attend most of these events. Then again, one client will cover the cost of attending many times over – especially if it becomes a repeat client.

Q: Great, and if you had to list 5 proven letters (classics even) that I can copy by hand just so I can get better what would they be (I know Dan Kennedy said he copied more than 500 when he was learning)?

Answer:
I did this once or twice but not often. (my hand was killing me from writing so much). I think I copied a Gary Halbert letter and a Dan Kennedy letter by hand.

Something about writing the letter out by hand or even typing it out gives you a deeper understanding than just reading it. I can’t explain it but that’s what happens. Maybe it’s because you have to think more when you write it out than when you read so there is a deeper psychological connection with the words.

Any sales letter written by someone you know to be a good copywriter or a sales letter known to be a winner will do. You asked for 5 so here are some you can find online for free:

1) Wall Street Journal: Two Young Men

I’m not making this up. I started to search for this letter online but I decided to search for “great sales letters” instead. The first result is a 225 page pdf with “59 of the greatest sales letters ever written…” The second letter is “The Wall Street Journal’s legendary ‘Two Young Men’ Letter.” It follows a simple formula (Winners vs Losers) that’s easy to repeat. That’s probably why it’s one of the most copied sales letters I’ve ever seen.

And there are 58 more great sales letters you can copy. You’ll find them here:

http://www.tvisuals.net/100GreatestSalesLetters_PDF.pdf

The second result in my “great sales letters” search is another pdf with 5 great sales letters – and there’s the WSJ “Two Young Men” letter again. You’ll find the pdf here:

http://www.merlesworld.com/e-books/Greatest-sales-letters.pdf

Anyone that reads the books, study the books, reads them again, and writes out these 250 pages of great sales letters by hand will be a good copywriter. You might even be able to do it in six months… but I would still say it takes 10,000 hours to become really good or even great.

+++

Go and get great,

Craig

$100K in 12 Months (Part 4)=?UTF-8?B?IOKAkyBUaGUgTGF1bmNo?=

Hey

Today we have the fourth in a series of four articles by Craig Ballantyne - focused on building to a $100K income in 12 months

Your 12 month plan culminates in a final “year end launch” where we hope you’ll finally breakthrough the $100K barrier.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++
$100K in 12 Months  – The Launch
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Let’s take a closer look at:

Months 10-12

1) The Product Launch

As mentioned in the last lesson, you’ll have recruited all of your affiliates for a 3-day launch. Now outlining a complete product launch will take more than a couple of paragraphs in this email, so we’ll have to save that for another day.

However, the basics are that you want to have:

– An incredible offer
– Built up anticipation
– Affiliates forming a “unified front” and all ready to mail at once
– Incentives for affiliates to mail at least three times (could be extra bonus commissions or a cash prize for your top affiliates)
– High converting upsells to maximize your average transaction
– Extreme value so your customers are happy
– A plan to provide more value to your customers in the weeks after so that you maximize revenues

Simply having this “3-day launch” system in place with a couple of big affiliates could help you earn 6-figures in just a few months.

It’s powerful, powerful stuff.

2) Plan Your Recurring Revenue Product

While there really isn’t a way to “make money on autopilot without any work at all”, having a product line that enables a guaranteed sale each month is a great way to add stability to your business.

For example, let’s say you have a business that offers gift baskets online. If you can encourage your customers to join your “Gift Basket of the Month” program, where they are automatically charged each month for the basket you send out, then you’ll have almost
guaranteed income each month – of course you’ll have to plan for customer drop-off…but you’ll be working hard to get new clients each month as well.

You can create monthly programs for all businesses, and it is quite easy if you are selling information, like I do by providing my clients with a new workout each month.

The key of course, as with EVERY aspect of your online business, is to be providing extreme value for your customer’s investment.

**********************

And so this wraps up your “$100K in 12 Months” program, and I want to leave you with the following checklist that you’ll need in place in order to achieve your goals.

If anything is missing from this list, go back and make it your top priority to check it off, and you’ll be another step closer to achieving financial freedom and Internet Independence.

10-Step Checklist for $100K in 12 Months (in order of importance)

1) Main Product (that gives your clients what they do NOT have)
2) Sales Page
3) Free Report (that instantly solves a big problem for readers)
4) Lead Generation/Traffic System (based on your personality)
5) Upsell Product (that offers more extreme value)
6) Daily task list (list of things to do)
7) Daily, Weekly, & Monthly Sales Goals (i.e. 3/day, 20/week, 80/month)
8] Outsourced Customer Service System
9) Recurring Revenue Product or High Priced Product Bundle
10) Mastermind Group/Peer/Affiliate Network

Whew. There you go.

Almost at $100K,

Craig Ballantyne

“Get your idea out there as fast as possible even if it’s not quite ready by setting must-hit deadlines. Let the market tell you if you have a winner or not. If not – move on and fail forward fast! If it’s got potential – then you can make it better.” – Yanik Silver

$100K in 12 Months (Part 3)=?UTF-8?B?IOKAkyBUaGUgUmlnaHQgQXR0aXR1ZGU=?=

Hey

You will frequently read that you need to have a winning attitude - but what exactly is that and how do you apply that?

Today Craig Ballantyne is focusing on ATTITUDE in your 12 month Plan to building a $100K earning business.

Some people will get lucky with a business idea, right place at right time - but for long term success a WINNING ATTITUDE and thinking right is essential.

Craig has a LOT of politically incorrect opinions on success - we like them!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
$100K in 12 Months – The Right Attitude
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

But first, the winning strategies for Months 7 through 9.

1) Plan a Product Launch

You might not make a lot of money in month’s 7 through 9, but that is okay, because you’ll be working on setting up for a big money product launch in the final quarter of the year.

Here’s what you need to do to make this happen:

a) Pick a 3-day period, generally Tuesday through Thursday works best, at a time when no other major affiliate promotions are planned for your niche market. Do your best to investigate this as far in advance as possible. You may even want to plan your launch 6-9 months early.

b) Create new bonuses for your launch. You will add these to your current product (and you’ll give them to past customers for free). Make sure their is a powerful reason why you are having this promo for your prospects.

b) Massive affiliate recruitment time. Go back to all past affiliates and tell them about this new launch. Remind them to save the date.

c) Dedicate a significant amount of time to new affiliate recruitment, using the strategies I provided yesterday – such as promoting their products to your list (this will also help bring in cash while sales of your product are down).

2) Increase Value & Price of Your Product

At the same time as you are working on your promotion plans, you will also be adding value to your current product so that you can increase the retail price to $39.95 from $19.95.

NOTE: The $19.95 and $39.95 prices are “arbitrary numbers”. Your industry may differ. In the end it is up to you to determine a fair price for your product. The point of the example is to show you how to make sales immediately. One of the biggest hurdles is getting an initial and consistent set of sales, and that often happens because people charge a high price without the credibility to back it up. By charging a low price, we overcome this obstacle for the first 6 months.

If possible, add a $19.95 product as the first 1-click upsell and a $9.95 product as the second 1-click upsell.

Finally, if possible, offer a recurring revenue product. That means offering a membership site or monthly newsletter, etc.

3) Plan to Make More Money

Organization is essential as you grow your business, and you need to plan out your email and promotional schedule in advance. I like to have at least the next 3 months planned.

So sit down, create a spreadsheet or use a wall calendar, and plan out your product promotions for the next 12 weeks.

By the way, this is how your big affiliates operate, and that’s why you have to contact them well in advance of your product launch. You can’t just email them the night before and expect them to drop everything and send out an email to their list for you.

POWER EXERCISE: Brainstorm how you can make an extra $3000 per month?

I want you to do this whenever your creativity energy is at its peak.

I do this exercise 2-4 times per year because it works amazingly well.

And it’s quite simple…its just that no one ever stops to think about it. Simply ask yourself this question:

“What can I do to add another $3000 to my income this month?”

That’s it. Then write down every idea you have…from the small ones to the crazy ones.

Now of course, you don`t have to use $3000. You can use $300. But I bet that whatever number you use (within reason), you’ll find a way to create that much money.

Brainstorm the possibilities. Again, make sure you do this when you are at your most creative…not at the end of a 14-hour workday.

I guarantee you’ll uncover some gems.

4) Build Your World

At this point you should be consistent with:

– Your traffic strategy
– Affiliate recruitment
– Emailing your list
– Blog posting

Keep consistent. Keep building your daily habits. Keep working on your time and energy management. Track and test. Find what works and do more of it.

There are no magic bullets. If one existed, I’d sure as heck be able to sell it to you for more than $1995…a true magic bullet could go for $100K or more, but I don’t see anyone selling that…so let’s face it, one does not exist.

5) Develop The Right Attitude

On Sunday afternoon, while reading yet another business magazine, I stumbled across this powerful quote:

“Achievement has everything to do with creating a failure-resistant brain and thinking your way to success…you can take charge of the process…Winner’s brains actually operate differently than the average brain.” – Mark Fenske, Neuroscientist

That’s not politically correct, but the truth about success never is.

So here are 3 rules to success. They aren’t the only rules for success, but probably the most important.

Rule #1: Everyone struggles, so don’t despair. Just realize you must always maintain an attitude that you are going to succeed come “Hell or High Water”.

All of the people I know who are successful at making money online didn’t even let it occur to them that they would fail.

Failure was not an option. It’s not just a cliche, it’s true.

I knew when I started my website that I would eventually be doing online marketing full-time. I allowed my mind no other option.

The most successful people I know are “all in”, as they say in poker.

And they never, ever, EVER give up.

Rule #2 – You must have extreme self-confidence. It attracts others to help you and it attracts success. On the other hand, people who are timid always seem to struggle. This is politically incorrect, but true.

As Dan Kennedy says, “You must have a sense of superiority”.

If you don’t truly believe that your product is the BEST – and superior to all others – then it will show in everything you do, from writing sales copy to attracting affiliates.

So if you don’t believe that, go back and work on your product until that is fixed.

Rule #3 – You must be ruthless with your time. This means continuing to eliminate the minutia from your life, and working only on the big projects that move you closer to your goals. Remember to always ask yourself, “Where is the profit in this work?”. Improve your time and energy management everyday. Fight that email. Fight against checking Facebook…and fight to get more work done in less time.

You must also develop “immunity to criticism”.

Listen, at some point someone on the internet is going to call you names because they don’t like the fact you are making money with your knowledge. Too bad. You can’t let that bother you – you have too much work to do.

Now this doesn’t mean ignoring valid customer feedback on your product, you want to pay attention to that. Never ignore your clients.

But personal attacks from people who don’t know you must be ignored. It’s not easy at first, but if you turn off the internet and go for a walk, you’ll realize that what a stranger says about you doesn’t matter. What matters is that you are creating value for your clients.

Let those rules sink in. Print them out and keep them by your computer as you keep working.

$100K in 12 Months (Part 2) Getting Affiliates

Hey,

We covered a lot of ground in Part One of your “Blueprint to Making $100K Online in Just 12 Months."

Timescale wise - Part One should take you around 3 months to complete.

The aim of those first 3 months is to lay a super-strong foundation to build your future success on.

But to really automate your business and take it to the next level, you need to cover the steps in the next 3 articles - to take you to $100K per year and beyond.

So over to Craig Ballantyne again.....

$100K in 12 Months (Part 2) Getting Affiliates
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

1) Get 2-3 New BIG Affiliates

Time to hunt down those big affiliates…the whales. You’ve got the sales snowball rolling and you have data you can bring to the bigger affiliates to PROVE that promoting your product will make them money.

You need to have these 3 things in place to attract affiliates:

a) High affiliate commissions (both % of sale and total $$$ amount)
b) Sales copy that converts
c) Low refunds

And preferably recurring commissions, too. Oh, and a good answer to this question:

“Why should someone promote you over everyone else out there?”

And you want to show affiliates these numbers from past promotions:

a) How much money is made per click
b) The open rate of the emails you have written for them.

This info proves it is worthwhile for them and makes it easy for them to promote. All they need to do is copy and paste your email.

Now, how do you contact affiliates? Well, it’s simple.

Find people with relevant websites and products and ask them to take a look at your work. If it's a good product and a good fit, chances are you’ll have a new affiliate.

POWER MOVE #1: Promote their product first.

If you make a few affiliate sales of their product, you can email them and say:

“Hey, I love your product and so do my readers. I sent out an email for it last week and made __ sales. It really goes well with my product because _____. If there’s anything I can do to help you out, please let me know. By the way, here’s access to my product if you want to check it out. It would help your readers achieve ____. And if you’d like to share it with them, I have pre-done proven emails used by affiliates to make $___ per click.”

POWER MOVE #2: Here’s a politically incorrect tip for affiliate whale hunting: Wear them down. Never give up. Most affiliates will say yes to a decent offer if you ask them enough. Seriously.

Now that said, you always be working on building relationships with potential affiliates. Help others as much possible. Go to the internet marketing seminars and meet them. Be a good person.

I guess the truth is, ATTRACTING affiliates is much better than hunting affiliates.

This was the biggest thing I did from day one in my online business. I interviewed others, submitted articles to others, promoted others who I thought had good stuff. Eventually, some of that good will found its way back to me.

POWER MOVE #3: Don’t forget to look outside the industry. Look for other businesses that serve the same demographic, even if they are in a different industry. For example, I’ve had successful affiliates who sell business advice to busy executives.

Attract affiliates by making a name for yourself…and remember yesterday’s POWER STRATEGY: Act as if there is no such thing as an affiliate willing to promote your product. Work as if YOU had to make ALL sales of your product.

But that said, I suggest one more POWER MOVE: Make a goal of contacting one new affiliate everyday.

Whew, that’s just a start of working with affiliates, but that`ll keep you busy for 6 months.

2) Get Traffic Based on Your Personality

You’ve probably never heard this strategy before, but look at it this way. I know successful business owners who get their traffic from all sources.

Some guys are SEO-based. Others do only product launches. Other guys are some of the best at pay-per-click.

But none of them are an expert at ALL of them.

They succeed at the strategy that best suits their personality.

Figure out what fits you…because you’ll be more likely to stick to it.

POWER STRATEGY: One of the most unexploited method of getting traffic is doing live events. If you can create opportunities to speak in front of your prospects, do it. You’ll be seen as a big-time expert and you’ll build a stronger connection with clients than you could through email or even video. Plus, filming a live event is one of the fastest ways to create a high-value product.

3) Work the System

Your work will never be done – if you want to improve or even to just maintain. If you try to coast, your business will slowly decay.

But hey, this stuff is fun, right? Set up a system so that you are consistently blogging, improving your writing, tracking-testing-planning, and increasing conversions on your site. Rinse and repeat. Kaizen. Whatever you want to call it, get it done.

4) Maximize Your Time & Energy

You can make a few bucks online – about $3K per month – even if you are disorganized. But if you want to breakthrough the 6-figure ceiling, you must use your time wisely.

I’ve talked about this again and again…for more details, read my posts HERE and HERE

5) Delegation/Customer Service

Time for you to stop doing $10 an hour tasks. After all, you’d have to work 20 hours a day at $10 an hour, 5 days per week, just to make $52K per year.

Obviously you can’t be doing customer service, editing videos, setting up your websites, etc., etc.

To make $100K you have to dedicated your time to what brings IN the money…and that’s selling, first and foremost.

*******************************

Alright, that’s next level stuff, and will take you from the $30K per year level to the $100K per year.

In the next article, we’ll hit mindset and a new POWER EXERCISE for rapid cash flow.
