Motivation is critical [Grateful]

Hey,

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at IncomeDiary.com

We are grateful to you for reading our messages, buying our products and supporting our endeavors.

Our gift to you today is an authentic and revealing message about Motivation.

Enjoy,

Barry Dunlop
Team IncomeDiary

++++ One thing that I’ve learned over the years is that motivation is critical ++++

By Craig Ballantyne

One thing that I’ve learned over the years is that motivation is critical. Take diets, for example: they aren’t exactly rocket science, but it takes a huge amount of motivation to follow a strict diet… just like it takes motivation for most people to hit the gym 3-5 times per week.

The same principle applies in other parts of our lives. It takes a tremendous amount of motivation… of self-discipline… to get up every day and stay focused on building an alternate source of income.

Maybe you have a great new e-book that you’d like to write… or perhaps launch a new business overseas in one of the many exotic places that I travel to each year… or develop the skills to become a successful online currency trader.

But life is full of distractions. And as human beings, we are full of personal challenges. OK let’s be honest – weaknesses. Nobody is perfect, and we all have to overcome our personal weaknesses to become successful.

It took me many years to build a successful fitness business… years before I was writing guest columns in publications like Men’s Health. During that time, I had to overcome my own weaknesses, and I’m going to be very candid with you about how I did that:

My Weakness #1 – Addiction

I come from a family that suffers from addiction. My father was an alcoholic, and his brother was an alcoholic and cigarette smoker. Both had their lives shortened because of it.

I have no intentions of going down that road, but if there really is a gene for addiction, then I guess I have to be addicted to something, right?

If so, then I’m at least going to pick my poison. So I choose knowledge. And by doing so, I channel my weakness into a strength: an insatiable appetite to learn.

Now, given the opportunity, I’d surf the web all day reading various websites… but that behavior, while not destructive, doesn’t further my business. Instead, I fore myself to seek out productive knowledge: things like professional seminars, books, and online courses.

That’s how my weakness becomes a strength.

My Weakness #2 – Laziness

My next biggest weakness is that I am utterly lazy when it comes to manual labor. In fact, I am so lazy that when I was younger, I would put more effort into avoiding work than if I had just gone to work. I’m also mechanically inept, which doesn’t help.

This isn’t a badge of honor for me… just a simple truth that is, in fact, a weakness of mine. I knew that if I wanted to be successful, I had to figure out a way to channel this weakness into building a business based on what I -really- wanted to do with my time.

That’s why I’ve worked for 18 years to build a business that makes money selling my knowledge, not my labor. I turned my weakness into a strength and designed a lifestyle based on working how I want, when I want.

My Weakness #3 – No tech skills

I can barely figure out iTunes (just about had a meltdown yesterday and almost smashed my computer trying to rent Ironman 2 (yes, Ironman TWO!) on my computer).

But in reality, that’s VERY good news for people running their own website business.

You see, the money is not made through technological knowledge. You can hire that. Cheap, too. So the simple solution to this weakness is to outsource.

Do NOT spend hours and hours figuring out how to create websites. In fact, I’d say that having superior tech skills will HINDER an online business because you’ll get too focused in the technical weeds.

Instead, you should know WHAT you want, and hire someone else to figure out HOW. Focus on the big ideas that will make you money, let others sweat the small stuff.

You can hire some of the worlds best Tech People and Designers at www.awesomeweb.com

So turn your technology weakness into a strength by learning how to delegate the tech tasks to someone else. That’s what I did.

Bottom line - there’s no weakness that is insurmountable. Any weakness can be turned into a strength if you have the proper mindset and motivation to do it.

To your abundance and wealth,

Craig Ballantyne

PS - Need a hand figuring out how to start?

You need more than just a web designer.

You need a BIG idea, great copy, the perfect product, and an awesome offer.

How to Create a Killer Offer That Converts Like Crazy!

The Ultimate Formula for Making Money

Hey,

JP Getty said...

"My formula for success is rise early, work late and strike oil."

But for those of us who don't strike oil,

Craig Ballantyne has an alternative formula...

Enjoy,

Barry Dunlop
Team IncomeDiary

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Ultimate Formula for Making Money
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was 9:45 on a Saturday night. In California. That put me five hours past my regular East Coast bedtime. But there I was, still on stage in front of over three hundred small-business owners, showing them how to extract more profit from their businesses.

I loved it. Nothing gets me more excited than teaching enthusiastic, ambitious people my success formula, whether in fitness or in business. And this formula was the most important equation they’d ever receive:

(NM + YP) x BI10 x OPC x POS / 5% = $$$

The end.

Clap. Clap. Clap…….Clap.

Just kidding.

Of course I’ll explain it to you.

NM stands for “Niche Market” and YP stands for “Your Product”.

Add those two together and multiply it by the “Big Idea” (BI). The Big Idea is the essential exponential factor in success.

Take that result and multiply it by “Other People’s Customers” (OPC), which is the fastest way to get started.

Now you multiply that by your “Position of Strength” (POS). Your POS is what you bring to the marketplace that no one else can bring.

Divide that by your 5% (Your Unique Ability – the activities that Dan Sullivan explains as being only made possible by you and your talents).

And that is The Formula for how you make money in business.

Let me walk you through it in a little more detail.

To get started building your business, you need to choose a marketplace where you know the customer well.

You need to know what they want, what keeps them up at night (either because they are frustrated or excited), and you need to know what problem they have that you can solve.

Your product itself needs to have a Big Idea.

Your Position of Strength is a wildcard in your success.

You must bring something to the game (of business) that is unique. Perhaps you have media connections, or an on-screen video personality that is unmatched by anyone else. Or perhaps it is your Big Idea or your expertise in the industry.

Oftentimes we discount our skills that would give us a Position of Strength, so don’t hesitate to ask your colleagues, friends, and family and have them tell you what allows you to stand out.

Finally, you’ve been taught time and time again to make sure that you are delegating the $10 per hour tasks if you want to make $100,000 per year. You need to get rid of the time-wasting activities in your day and focus on the activities in your business that will “move the needle”, as Early To Rise Publisher, Matt Smith likes to say.

Or as Bedros Keuilian proclaims, you should really only be working on, “Delegating, motivating, and selling.”

Those are the activities that will bring in revenue to your business – and that is what business is all about.

If you don’t know what activities are worth your time and what aren’t, then you need to get involved in a Mastermind group so that people who have more experience than you can help you.

This will give you faster results.

“Mastermind and collaborate with other smart entrepreneurs if they have futures that are even bigger than their present.” – Yanik Silver

Yanik Silver was my mentor who introduced me to Matt Smith, who then allowed me to achieve the goal of my business dreams, which was running Early to Rise.

You need to get out there and meet the people you want to do business with and be around positive people who have had success – even if it just means starting with a Virtual Mastermind group.

When you can afford to pay to play and get coaching, that will accelerate your progress even more.

The formula is part of your wealth-building journey. The networking you do is part of your wealth building “club”. And the mentor you get, such as myself, Yanik Silver, or Mark Ford, is you wealth building coach. When you have all of these in place, and you follow my wealth-building formula, then you will write your own ticket in life, and will achieve the success you desire and deserve.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thought For Today ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Be careful how you spend your time, there are no refunds.

4 Keys to Profitable Partnerships
++++++++++++++++++++++++

By Craig Ballantyne

Back in 2001, when I first started my career in Information Marketing, doing a Joint Venture (JV) meant something quite different than it does now.

Today, everyone thinks a JV refers to Affiliate Marketing. But that’s not what it is.

A true Joint Venture is where you partner with someone on a product or business.

For example, Bedros Keuilian and I have created a JV coaching program that includes our $100K Mastermind Group, a private Facebook Coaching program called Online Info Ignition, and events like the Info Blueprint Workshop. Bedros and I work very well together, and here's why.

There are four keys to our — and any —  successful JV:

1) Making the most of other people’s poorly used customers
2) Great reward for doing it (money, fame, etc.)
3) Bringing something unique to the person with whom you are doing business
4) Having the skill of deal making

Here’s how each of these plays out in the JV between Bedros and myself.

Other people’s poorly used customers

Bedros has a big list of over 50,000 personal trainers. I have two lists: one at Internet Independence, of 10,000 people, and another at ETR, of over 100,000 people. But neither of these audiences received the high-end, hands-on coaching they needed to build an online business. We fixed that by creating the Mastermind and marketing it to our lists.

Great reward for doing it (money, fame, etc.)

Fame is relative. Bedros and I will never go on Shark Tank because of the Mastermind, but we’ve grown our fame in our little info-marketing worlds because we are the teachers. Our students become successful, thank us, and recommend us to others. This has a big impact on many aspects of our businesses, not just on getting new clients in to the Mastermind group. By taking action, we get attraction of new opportunities. Bedros gets invited to be on reality shows, and I get book deals.

Of course, we have also turned this into a profitable business. There is less overhead in Mastermind coaching than in anything else that I do.

Bring something unique to the person with whom you are doing business

Bedros and I are like night and day. West Coast Cool vs. East Coast Attitude. The yin and yang of coaching styles. We both care deeply about our clients, but we express it in different ways. We both ‘go to bat’ and push to the ends of the earth to make them successful, but we use different tools.

We also bring different skill sets to the Mastermind Coaching. He’s the master of selling in person, on stage, one-on-one, and through group coaching. I have more experience in creating info products and driving specific sources of traffic. He has more knowledge of buying advertising, while I’m more connected in the affiliate worlds that our clients need to join.

Even in areas where we are both talented, such as email marketing, we have two different styles and varied experiences. We can bring double the testing results, BIG ideas, and failure stories to our coaching clients so they get double the value without paying double the price for separate coaching.

It’s a win-Win-WIN situation for our coaching client’s customers, our coaching clients, and us.

Dealmaker skill

Doing business with Bedros or I is simple. We belong in the handshake era where your word was your bond. We don’t need fancy contracts. And we both bring great ideas for future deals.

This is why we make a perfect team.

When we need to, we can broker deals between our clients and people outside of the Mastermind. Or we can make a deal with great guest speakers to bring them in and help our clients. Or we can make deals with other companies that need our help to rejuvenate the business, like we are doing with our friends at Income Diary.

We bring energy, enthusiasm, experience, and education along with a vast network of connections that will help you rapidly build the business of your dreams so that you are making $5,000, $10,000, or more each month.

It’s the perfect plan from the perfect partnership.

What does this mean for you?

Now that you understand how a good JV works, you’re going to follow the four keys to a JV and go out to build a partnership that has massive benefits for your future partner, and — of course — for you.

Remember, a JV is about win-Win-WIN relationships. It’s not about “sucking out their customers” or profiting at the expense of their demise. It’s about building them up while building you up at the same time. Go with a giving hand. Show them how you can improve their profits, get more from their current assets, reduce their expenses, and making their lives better overall.

That’s what a JV partnership is about. So here’s what to do...

Find a Business with a Customer List that is Being Poorly Used

It’s hard to believe in this day and age that a business with a website and customer email list is not emailing that list at least twice a week. But you’d be surprised. Some companies only contact their list once a month with a corporate-style email newsletter. Others don’t even do that, and just blast out a sales pitch email three to four times per year, without making the effort to build a relationship with their readers.

Bedros and I see huge email marketing mistakes by big and small companies alike. All you need to do is get on the email lists of the most popular businesses in your niche market and find one where you can improve their email marketing results. Then take the knowledge you’ve built through what we’ve taught you, and approach them with a well-laid-out plan for a JV.

There are other opportunities. You might find that a business does a good job with email marketing but is leaving money on the table by not having higher-priced, higher-profit products.

For example, they might only sell $97 home-study courses. But what if you offered to take that $97 home-study course and turn it into a $497 four-month online coaching course that includes webinars and a private Facebook coaching group where the customers can ask questions and get more hand-holding advice? You could do all the work, they email their list to sell it, and you split the profits (the split depends on the value you prove to the business... that’s the art of deal making!).

The opportunities are endless. You might partner on a product, take over their email marketing, or start a high-end Mastermind. The exact opportunity will be up to your imagination and individual situation, but trust me there is plenty of low-hanging fruit out there for the picking.

Show Your Potential Partner the Great Reward for Doing It (money, fame, etc.)

Will you bring them more sales and new customers? Can you show them how to maximize the value of the customers they currently have? Will you help them get a book or TV deal because you’ll be making them famous on YouTube or Instagram? Can your expertise help them cut expenses and increase profits without having to create more products or do more work?

Be clear and concise in showing them, WIIFM (What’s in it for me — and by me, I mean them!).

Bring Something Unique to the Partnership

If your potential partner can do everything that you can, they don’t need you (unless they are simply out of time or energy to take action on their ideas). You must prove to them that you have insider knowledge, or valuable skills, or a more extensive network than they do. Preferably, you’d have all of those and more.

Make the Deal

This is where you must sell them on the venture. Prove the profits that are coming their way. Bring a well-structured plan, show them that you can do something they can’t do, and that you can maximize the value of an opportunity or asset that already exists in their business. The more hands-off and done-for-you the solution you offer, the better.

If you’re just getting started, the reality is that you’ll be doing the grunt work to improve the profitable performance of the assets they already own.

If you have assets you can bring to the table, just as Bedros and I did when we created our JV, then you’ll want to emphasize your unique skills and how they can improve the profits of your potential partner.

Finally, if you run an established business but you know your assets are being underutilized (perhaps you have a customer list that is not being optimized through email marketing), you can make a deal with a partner that excels in that are

Not all deals need to be 50-50, but they do need to be fair. If you’re just starting out, you’ll likely need to accept less of the profits in order to gain experience and build your reputation.

On the other hand, if you’re the big dog in this relationship, you can make a deal for a healthier share of the profits as long as you prove to your potential partner that there are other benefits (such as fame, a bigger network, or skill development) that will ultimately prove profitable for them.

Joint Ventures are simple. Find an opportunity, make a plan to profit, identify the right partner, and make a deal. Always think win-Win-WIN and you’ll come out ahead in the big games of business and life.

This guest post makes me $12k a year

Hey,

One day it occurred to me… I wonder if there are any links on my website that could be better monetised.

I figured there must be a way to see all my outgoing links, in order of most popular.

Turns out Google Analytics will let you see this data if you setup event tracking for it.

So that’s what I did and a month later I went back to look at the stats.

I now could see hundreds of websites IncomeDiary readers were going to from clicking links on my website. The top site had been clicked over 1000 times. I visited the page and they were selling software that they billed customers monthly for. I scrolled to the bottom of the page, found an affiliate program link, signed up and changed the URL on my website.

The first month I made $100 from changing this one link.

It’s a recurring product… so every month, it makes more and more money. Less than 2 years later, this one link makes over $1000 a month.

$12,000 a year for changing one link.

Best thing is, I didn’t even write the post. I paid someone $100 to write it for me.

Two lessons learned:

1. Often you can make more money by focusing on what’s already working. Pay attention to the details. Ask questions.

2. The return on investment for content marketing is unbelievable. $100 investment makes me $1000 a month and gets me over 1000 new visitors every day. Rinse and repeat for maximum benefit!

The Fight For Success - Are You Winning?

Hey,

The success you deserve is outside your comfort zone

That is where the magic happens!

Today, Craig Ballantyne is going in deep...

As usual there is Great Wisdom here.

++++++++++++++++++++
Sorting Out Your Priorities
++++++++++++++++++++

Today's article has nothing to do with email clicks and everything to do with the rest of your life.

Let’s talk about…

The Fight.

You have a devil on your shoulder. An angel on the other. So do I. We all do. And they are fighting. The Devil wants you to stay in your comfort zone. The Angel wants to see you achieve your dreams. Sad thing is that for most people, the devil wins. But NOT for you. You’ll win this fight.

Now your devil might be raising a lil’ hell lately. But here’s why. It’s because he knows he’s in the final rounds and he’s bleeding bad. Your good habits, your commitment, and persistence have beaten him down over the last few months. That’s why he’s swinging for the fences. He’s scared. It’s time for you to deliver the knockout blow.

Every step you take in the right direction, and every time you make the right choice in the face of temptation, you put the hurt on your bad habits. You make your Angel stronger and you get closer to your dreams.

Remember that with every action you take today… with every temptation that comes along and with every obstacle that people put in your way. When you make the right choice for your right life, you knock that devil down again. One more time and you just might knock him out for good.

So keep going… keep punching… keep fighting. You will win. I believe in you.

As you keep winning, there are questions you must ask yourself about what you are fighting for. I really enjoyed this exercise from Greg McKeown.

Take some time to answer these. I'll even share my answers with you to give you a quick start.

Step 1: Write down the question “What would I do if I only had a week left to live?” and take 10 minutes to write down your answer.

=> Spend every moment with my family
=> Give away all my money

Step 2: Write down the question, “What would I do if I only had a month left to live?” and take 10 minutes to write down your answer.

=> Spend every minute with my 5 families (Ballantynes, Keuilians, Smiths, Marions, and Team ETR)
=> Film videos of the 3-5 biggest lessons from my life to pass on to the world
=> Give away all my money

Step 3: Write down the question, “What would I do if I only had a year left to live?” and take 10 minutes to write down your answer.

=> Spend every minute with my 5 families (Ballantynes, Keuilians, Smiths, Marions, and Team ETR)
=> Film 1 more workout product to cement my legacy – just can’t help filming workouts! :)
=> Film videos of the 3-5 biggest lessons from my life to pass on to the world
=> Give away all my money

Notice that I…

=> Don’t care about checking off some silly bucket list of items like “bungee jumping in the Amazon jungle”
=> Don’t care about buying things
=> Don’t care about making more money, just giving it away
=> Care about people, experiences, and legacy

That’s right for me. I’m not saying it’s right for you.

But no matter what, please do the right things for your right life – always.

Right on,

Craig Ballantyne

PS - If you have a full life left...

21 Sales Copy Secrets from a Renegade Copy King!

Hey,

Or write more persuasive and engaging blog posts? Or build a better squeeze page?

Along with some amusing observations on the common traits of all great copywriters!

Lessons I Learned From A Copy King!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

By Craig Ballantyne

I first met this King of Copy at a Morton’s steakhouse in Bethesda, Maryland, just past the town of Chevy Chase (seriously, it exists!). He and I were staying at the Hyatt Regency for a Yanik Silver Mastermind back in 2007.

It was there that I first noticed the common traits that almost all great copywriters/salesmen shared...

a) They like to eat & drink
b) They like to laugh & have a great time
c) They are loyal friends
d) They are extremely generous
e) They LOVE to tell stories … and they are great at telling them.
These all come to them naturally.

Unfortunately, I’m not a natural in all of those…(just a, part of b, and c). I have to work quite hard at the rest.

Fortunately, the King of Copy gave us the FORMULA we need to become amazing salesmen and women. (Recommend you Print This!)

It’s below.

Perry Belcher is one of the best salesmen that I know – whether in print, in person, or in video.

Perry first came up with this list after stumbling across David Frey’s 12-step foolproof sales letter formula. Perry claims this formula has made him many millions of dollars over the years, but he still was able to add a few upgrades.

Here are Perry’s 21 copy secrets…

Enjoy!

1) Call out to your audience… Be specific! It seems unnecessary to put “Attention: _(insert your audience here)_” at the top of a sales letter, but you see it – and even hear it on the radio – all the time…particularly from top direct marketers
2) Grab their attention with your Big Promise Headline telling them, specifically, what you are going to teach them
3) Backup the big promise with a quick explanation (sub-headline)
4) Identify the problem by telling a story (see my final thoughts about Perry below) and make sure they know that it is NOT their fault that they struggle right now
5) Provide your solution – and prove it is the best option
6) Show pain (with empathy & affinity)
7) Explain ease-of-use
8) Show speed of results
9) Future cast – Explain to them how their life will be better because of your solution
10) Prove that you are the expert (credibility)
11) Detail the benefits in bullet points – And here’s an additional bonus tip from Bedros to make this better…
…”Whenever you are creating bullet points, use the phrase “so that” to make the bullet even better.”
For example: The simple benefit “You’ll lose fat with this workout” can be improved by turning it to, “You’ll lose fat with this workout so that you turn heads at the beach & get all the attention you want from the opposite sex“.
(That’s not a great bullet, by the way, but it’s just a sample of how to use that formula to improve your bullet copy.)

12) Show proof/testimonials … you can also use an outside authority…such as statistics from research, or quoting an authority (i.e. “According to the Wall Street Journal“)
13) Make your offer in detail
14) Build up your value – Fragment your offer and then add it all up to increase value
15) Add bonuses – increase the value even more
16) Reveal your price (this is where the pop up buy button shows up in a VSL) …NOTE: If you are going to split test, start with Price, then test headline, and then test your offer
17) Inject scarcity – Find a way to deliver this…via increased price, limited time, etc.
18) Give guarantee to remove/reverse all risk
19) Call to action – Be specific and tell them what to do to take action now
20) Give warning that if they don’t buy, here’s what will happen (i.e. will remain in pain)
21) Close with a reminder – a PS recap of everything … Perry said one of his best PS’s went like this:

“PS – As my grandmother said, ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again when it doesn’t work. So if you keep doing what you’re doing now, you’ll be in the same place next year.” And then it went into a summary of the problem, his solution, the offer, and his guarantee.

Listen, this is nothing groundbreaking. And it’s no replacement for a big idea/hook, but it’s a great formula to help you get started. Heck, it will save you a ton of time as you write future sales letters.

Get good at sales copy and you will be King of Your World,

Content Marketing - What Is Working, Fall 2015

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Here's what's working now in my business. It's called Content Marketing. What we do, on a very simplified level, is send traffic from our Facebook pages (300,000 fans) to our website (EarlyToRise.com). Once people go to our site, we make them free offers and show them our best products.

Each day we get about 500 new email subscribers and make about 20 sales, and each month our sales are doubling. We're really optimistic this will be a big breakthrough in our business in 2016.

The success of this plan depends on the content you create. It needs to be both valuable and interesting enough to get the initial click (without lowering yourself to the level of "clickbait"). Here's what I've found...

For better or for worse, and because of human nature, people love articles that:

=> Give them the easy way out
=> Justify their bad behaviors
=> Allow them to feel superior to others because of things they do AND don’t do (for example, people that don’t have iPhones love reading about the negatives of iPhones)
=> Surprise them with facts (especially ones that make them feel better about themselves or justify bad behaviors)
=> Give them permission to eat forbidden foods
=> Allow them to blame others
=> Prove that it’s NOT their fault that they are broke, overweight, struggling, etc.
=> Bring down others to their level
=> These are not politically correct, but it’s true, and it’s just human nature.

Based on that list, here are some of the article ideas I suggested that would get a lot of clicks and help us build an email list of people interested in pain relief (to promote our Yoga DVD program):

7 foods that reduce pain
7 foods NEVER to eat for pain relief
7 drinks that reduce pain
7 easy changes to make at work to reduce pain
7 things in your house causing you pain
7 things you do in your sleep that cause you pain
7 things your boss does that cause you pain
7 ways your iPhone causes you pain (also allows iPhone haters to enjoy)
7 ways your spouse causes you pain

The list of 7 things can be 3 things, 5 things, 10 things, etc. It's not the number, it's the ideas that matter… we want to prove to someone that there are several surprising things they can do with minimal effort to reduce pain and prove that it’s not their fault they are in pain (in fact, it’s often someone else’s fault!).

The overriding message is that content needs to let people off the hook (blame others for all pain) and make it easy to reduce pain (by eating favorite foods – like anti-inflammatory cherry pie) all while surprising and entertaining them.

Create some killer content today,

Craig Ballantyne

PS - And now for something completely different...

If the world were to take all your earthly possessions and ask you, "What do you have left?" and you could truthfully reply, "Everything," with a calm smile on your face, knowing that you have your family, friends, and integrity, then you, my friend, have lived the right way and won the game of life. Have gratitude today. Count your riches in relationships.
