What is the best day to send out an email?

Hey,

Ever wondered what is the best day to send out an email?

Today Craig Ballantyne reveals the findings of his career-long semi-scientific study into the human mind and how people react to messages.

Having posted hundreds (maybe over a thousand quotes?) on his Facebook pages and having written literally over 3000 emails in all in his businesses,
Craig has figured out a pretty good rule for delivering content over the course of the week.

Enjoy,

This is a test of your email broadcast system. If you are not paying attention to your customer's mindset, you're missing the proverbial boat, and may I suggest...

Achtung!

Now for my findings...

1) Monday

This is THE action taking day of the week... people are ready to buy... as I say about the fitness industry, "Every Monday is New Year's resolution day."

Therefore, particularly on Early To Rise (ETR), I post my best motivational message of the week.

It is the most optimistic message and the one that implies:

You CAN do this and YOU can do this.

I know it's the same line, but it means two extremely different and important things:

a) That it IS attainable.

b) That it is PERSONALLY attainable.

Big difference.

A lot of people will believe 'a' but find a reason not to believe 'b.'

Perhaps it is because they are not me or a big name marketer, or not wealthy, or they have kids, or they are too old.

Whatever. Everyone has an excuse that is stopping them from taking action. You must find it and destroy it.

The Monday Motivational Message needs to cover both 'a' and 'b,' preferably in an optimistic manner, and it should ALWAYS come directly from you (in case you use guest authors in your business like I do).

Finally, remember this quote when writing Monday's email:

"People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies." - Blair Warren

Powerful.

In the wrong hands, dangerous.

In the right hands, world-changing (for the better).

People want to be forgiven for their sins of the past week.

i.e.) That they didn't accomplish anything... or, as is the case in the fitness world, that they totally blew their nutrition on the weekends.

I'll get 30-40 people to "like" a quote on my FB page if something like this is posted on a Monday morning:

"Forget the mistakes of the past. Learn from them. Do better today. You will succeed."

So that's Monday.

THE most important message of the week.

2) Tuesday

Reality check day. Report on a related news story. Guest articles are fine. This is also an action taking day because it is early in the week.

3) Wednesday

This is a good day to deliver great content tied in with a news-related or celebrity-related post.

4) Thursday

A good day for promotions. Thursday is a great "deadline" day that spurs action to accomplish something this week - as many people will feel like they haven't moved ahead one bit.

Put a little fire under their butts with some urgency... before the "I'm not doing anything because it's the weekend attitude" creeps in.

5) Friday

QnA is perfect because Friday is the world's collective 'exhale' that they made it through the week without losing their job.

We are definitely doing the right thing here with QnA. I think it could be even longer and that would only be more appreciated by readers... particularly if the QnA session is both broad enough and specific enough to a large %-age of readership that they feel like, "Ah, it's like he's answering that question specifically for me."

6) Saturday

The more I think about it, the more I think my business partner Matt is right about having a weekly summary email that also includes more ad opportunities and still one little piece of content that is unique to Saturday so that readers are still inclined to open it.

It doesn't have to be long, just enough to make it worthwhile for a reader to open the email on a Saturday before heading out to weekend errands/activities.

Class dismissed.

There will be a test on the material.

It's called "Real Life."
